1969 Dodge Coronet RT

If you chat it up with any classic muscle car collector, aficionado, enthusiast and you mention the 1969 Dodge Coronet RT you will be met with smiles and raised eyebrows and a conversation that should not only take you the better part of the day but make yourself a friend or two!

The 1969 Dodge Coronet RT is remembered not only for it's unique looks and style but for it's performance and engineering history. There's no mistaking one of these muscle cars for another model even though it had several cousins in the line of muscle cars from Chrysler/Dodge.

It sported a OHV V8 engine, horsepower of 375 at 4,600 rpm, torque of 480 at 3,200 rpm, compression ratio of 10.0:1, fuel system 1x 4bbl, displacement, cid: 440, 0-60 mph in 6.5 seconds.

With the 440 cubic inch Six Pack, the 390, 426, and 440 horsepower engines also had an accompanying 426 Hemi V8. It had the single four barrel carburetor. It had the A833 four speed manual transmissions

The optional features for the exterior included twin hood scoops, fiberglass lift off hood, trailer towing package, and over 20 colors. The inside featured carpet, map light, wood grained instrument panel, over 20 interior colors.

What many 1969 Dodge Coronet RT fans will discuss are the changes in the design features that have now become signature in relationship to this classic muscle car and it's siblings and rivals. The carryover hood had the stamped metal skirt. A new grill that featured stamped aluminum in horizontal configuration that went in tow with the air cooling features for the engine. There are the scoops that cooled the carburetor and also a signature feature. If you find the convertible version of the 1969 Dodge Coronet RT you're in the catbird seat for sure. Even with todays high tech cars, the Coronet RT would still stand out and make you look good and be the center of attention. 1968 Dodge Charger

Known as part of the Second Generation of the Dodge Charger line, comes the 1968 Dodge Charger. It was produced in Detroit and Hamtramck, Michigan and assembled in Los Angeles and St. Louis.

The 1968 Dodge Charger is often mistaken for other Dodge lines such as the Dodge Coronet. All were part of the B-body line for 1968. Dodge came out with a new design for the Charger which included a more curve style to the body, hidden headlight grille, changes in the back-light, less chrome and more. It's the famous Coke Bottle design of the body that people remember of this classic muscle car. Two medallions on the R/T front grille and rear tail light panel.

The specifications of the 1968 Dodge Charger included the standard 316 cubic inch V8 engine with it's two barrel carburetor. A standard could even get the 383 cubic inch V8 with the options of the two barrel or four barrel carburetors. The Dodge 1968 Charger could come with the options of front power disc breaks, power locks, power steering and air conditioning. You could also add cruise control. Many colors were offered for the Charger and even additional colors such as metallic colors like silver, gold, blue and more.

Further specifications of the 1968 Dodge Charger are a wheelbase of 117 inches, height of 53.2 inches, width of 76.6 inches, length of 208 inches and weight of 4,035 lbs.

The engines range from the 225 cubic inch to the 426 cubic inch Hemi

The 225 cubic inch I-6 1-V carburetor had 145 horse power @ 4000 rpm and a torque at 215 lbs @ 2400 rpm. The standard 318 cubic inch V8 with the 2V carburetor came with a horse power of 230 @ 4,400 rpm and a torque of 340 @ 2,400 rpm. The 383 cubic inch V8 with a 2V carburetor had a horse power of 290 @ 400 rpm and a torque of 390 @ 2800. 383 cubic inch V8 with the 4V carburetor had a horse power of 330 @ 5000 rpm and a torque of 425 @ 3200. The much prized 440 cubic inch Magnum V8 with the 4V carburetor had a horse power of 375 @4600 and a torque of 480 @ 3200. Finally the 426 cubic inch Hemi V8 with 2x4V carburetor had 425 @5000 rpm and a torque of 480 @ 4000.

If you ever see one of these cars on the streets and they don't have a smiling person behind the wheel then it's probably a mirage. There are so many fans of this car that you might find some people willing to leave the car money in their will.

1971 Dodge Charger Super Bee

Anybody who was around in the early 1970s remembers the excitement when the 1971 Doge Charger Super Bee hit the scene!

If you had one, people would flock to see what it was, girls would hover around and pose for pictures. Guys couldn't wait to challenge this muscle car and customizers found it fun to work on.

Produced from 1968 through 1971, the Dodge Super Bee grabbed a lot of attention. People felt they had a car that not only was powerful and came from a line of reliable vehicles but the name and look of the car made the owner stand out among the crowd. Even now, collectors find this car a centerpiece and at car shows you'll find many an admirer telling stories of the good ol' days and the fun and excitement this Dodge model brought them.

This car was so popular that today even it's chrome ornaments are prized collectibles. That's how stylish this car is from it's bumble bee wings that consisted of added on twin looped front bumper, it's aforementioned highly prized chrome ornaments, Ramcharger hood forward facing scoops it had it's basic features that made it popular then as well today.

A Charger platform reminded fans of it's cousin the Doge Charger which also and still is a monster of a collectible to find. It had the small block engine that year. A B body, with engines that included 340ci V8, 383ci V8, 426ci V8, 440ci V8. Standard equipment came with heavy duty suspension, a wheelbase of 115 inches, height at 52.7 inches, width of 79.1 inches, length of 205.4 inches, a weight of 4,050 pounds.

It reached 0-30 mph in 2.5 seconds, 0-45 mph in 4.2 seconds, 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds, 0-75 in 7.6 seconds. Those are the stats to the Hemi engine that was included and many a story about those Hemis I can assure you. The six pack 440 boasted a wee bit slower with 0-30 mph in 2.9 seconds, 0-45 mph in 4.7 seconds, 0-60 mph in 6.9 seconds, and 0-75 mph in 9.9 seconds.

The 426 ci Hemi V8 had a C.R. at 10.25:1, 425 at 5,000 rpm horsepower, and torque of 480 at 4,000 rpm.

Mind you only a small number of the Hemis were built!

The car came with a Charger 500 interior and many optional features. When buying one make sure to check out which options were included and modified over the years.

Since the car was featured as a low cost muscle car and a competitor to the Plymouth Road Runner the engine modification upgrade that turned the 383 cylinder Magnum V8 four barrel carburetor to the 426 hemi but Dodge upgraded it to the 440 six pack that cost less. It can get confusing regarding the options and modifications but this muscle car had it's hey day and is still sought after.

1969 Dodge Charger R/T-SE

The 1969 Dodge charger RT/SE came as a muscle car appearance in 1969 and was enhanced by the use of a divided grille with six functional air vents in the divider piece resembling dual intakes. Near wall to wall rectangular tail lights which were recessed replaced the dual, round projecting lights used on the 1968s. These lights are surrounded by a black insert as they were in 1968 to retain Charger's highway identity. Total production of the 1969 Dodge Charger R/T-SE model was 89,119 units.

There were many changes seen for the popular charger in 1969. Along with the minor exterior changes, included a new grille, with a centre divider and new longitudinal taillights all, designed by Harvey J. Winn. There was a special edition package with a new trim line, called the special edition or SE. this option was available by itself or packaged with the R/T, thus making the 1969 Dodge charger R/T-SE.

1969 Dodge Charger SE added leather inserts to the front seats, a wood grain steering wheel and wood grain inserts on the instrument panel, chrome rocker mouldings and a sunroof was added to the option list as well, however, it would not be a very popular option as only 260 units were ordered. Instead of the previous models offering of the four characteristic ‘bumblebee’ stripes of its predecessor, it now had one bold, central stripe, with two much thinner stripes running alongside it. In the middle of the central bold stripe, the famous R/T cut-out was placed so that the slick paintwork gleamed from underneath. If the option to remove the stripes was taken, then a sleek chromed plate of the R/T logo was fixed to where the cut-out should have been. The Standard engine for 1969 was the 318 cubic inch V-8 producing 230 hp.

The standard six cylinders was the 225 cubic inch, 145 hp slant six. Two optional 383s were on offer to the general public with either a two or four barrel carburettors that would produce a screaming 290 and 330 hp respectively. In the 1969 Dodge Charger Charger R/T-SE, which accounted for 21 percent of 1968 Charger sales, the 440 C.I.D. Magnum, 375 H.P. pure muscle power plant was a standard fixture and for a little more the 426 C.I.D., 425 H.P. Hemi was an outstanding optional upgrade to this muscle legend.

The 1969 Dodge Charger R/T-SE has a "tunnel roof" and the rear window is less slanted. The grille is flush mounted instead of recessed to improve air flow and the headlights are fixed instead of concealed, flush mounting provided a tremendous aerodynamic advantage which was to culminate in the Charger as in the Charger R/T. Powered by the 426 cubic inch Hemi engine became known as ‘The Charger 500’ and was built to a NASCAR requirements At the other end of the spectrum Dodge also built a 225 slant six Charger for those desiring a sporty look, with a more economy focused fuel bill. 500 of these cars were built.

1971 Dodge Challenger R/T

To fully understand the 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T one would need to first understand the history of the dodge challenger as a series. The dodge Challenger was conceived in the late 1960s as Dodge’s rather late response to the pony-car wave that was started by Ford with their Mustang. These First generation Dodge Challengers were built between 1970 and 1974.

The Challanger had a performance model the R/T which was an abbreviation for abbreviation for (Road/Track). These were built only until 1973 after which the name fell away. In 1970-1971 there were convertible and hardtop R/T models, although interestingly enough they were no 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T convertibles ever factory built during 1971 all 1971 model convertibles were built in 1970.

1971 Dodge Challenger R/T hardtops had the option of being ordered with the more luxurious SE specification. Choices included leather seats, vinyl roof, smaller rear window, also an overhead interior console containing three heads up warning lights (open door, fuel gauge, and seatbelt warning). The 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T also came with a Rally instrument panel that included the 150 mph (240 km/h) speedometer, and an 8,000 rpm tachometer.

As the performance model the 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T head four Engine options with a 383 CID Magnum V8, rated at 300 BHP (223.7 kW) this was a drop from 335 BHP (249.8 kW) in 1970, due to a drop in compression .The other Optional R/T engines included the 440 cu 375 BHP 79.6 kW in (7.2 L) Magnum, also the 440 CID Six-Pack 390 BHP (290.8 kW) and then finally the 426 cu 425 BHP (316.9 kW) in (7.0 L) Hemi. Due to the drop off of production by nearly 2/3 in 1970 the performance model 1971 dodge challenger R/T or by far the hardest to come by .The Production numbers for the 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T were only 3,814 down almost 10,000 from the year before all of which contribute to the demand and value of this legendary muscle car.

The quarter-mile performance figures of the different engines listed in ascending order with firstly the 383 Magnum R/T doing it in 14.3 seconds going at 99 mph with the ultimate top speed of 59 km/h. The 440 Magnum R/T coming home in 13.8 seconds at 102 mph with its top speed 164 km/h. The next best performance was in the 440 Six-Pack, clocking in at 13.4 seconds at 107 mph with a top end speed of 172 km/h. Finally the top performer of them all was the 426 Hemi doing the quarter mile in 13.2 seconds at a 108 mph top speed of 174 km/h.

In conclusion the 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T has become a rare collector's item firstly due to production issues way back in 1971 and now and was time increasing demand and affecting the supply that is left are available in the market. This is a true American muscle car.

2006 Dodge Avenger Concept

The Paris Motor Show in 2006 became Dodge Avenger’s point of introduction on the market. This concept car was launched in Britain, and has attained popular success among coupe vehicle owners. Also known for its similarities to the Dodge Daytona which hasn’t been in production since 1993, the Dodge Avenger was in production since 1995; it was debuted with a 103” wheelbase, had two engine options, and either manual or automatic transmissions. The car quickly adapted 16” wheels, which immediately became standard. In year 2000, Dodge discontinued the 4-cylinder engine, leaving the Avenger with a 6.0L engine. An extra sports trim could be purchased separately, and it included alloy wheels along with other sports accessories and options.

The 2006 Dodge Avenger Concept is a bit of a downgrade, but it was designed to fit the European market, which isn’t as power-hungry as American muscle car lovers. It holds a 2-liter, 122 cu. in. engine with direct fuel injection. This red-hot sedan looks appealing to prospective buyers who are looking for a mid-size class vehicle. The innovative design features a long hood, a sexy rear spoiler, and slick shoulders that could have made a bold statement on the American roads, had this model been put to production. The 2006 Dodge Avenger Concept breaks away from the boring presumption that all mid-size class cars are your average sports vehicle.

It’s a shame that this four-door car didn’t have a market for it in the United States at the time of its debut at the Paris Motor Show. Perhaps this was because of it’s small diesel engine, yet gas-guzzlers like the ever-popular Hummers survived nonetheless. The designers decided to up the wheel game by putting 19” silver five-spoke wheels on the 2006 Dodge Avenger Concept. Its attractive chrome tip exhaust pipes sounded nice, and the red break pads that could be seen through the wheel spokes made it truly stand out of the crowd. The car’s deep side sills, short height and solid traction made it overall a fun to drive car.

How did it fare in Britain? The 2006 Dodge Avenger Concept was Dodge’s second concept car. It was also Dodge’s fourth vehicle on the European market; according to their spokesperson, the car would provide stiff competition to Mazda6 and Alfa Romeo 159. The truth is, Dodge needed to leverage their market due to lowering numbers in car sales in the U.S. As of Q3 of 2006, Dodge sold over 1,840,000+ vehicles in America, but only 129,300 cars outside of the United States. Due to the oncoming recession, Chrysler knew that Dodge would need to become a household name overseas, and this is exactly what they tried to do by introducing the Avenger in Europe.

Dodge’s latest entry in Europe was the 2008 Dodge Journey, which featured a bigger engine and more transmission options. However, this 5-door wagon doesn’t even come close to the sex appeal of the 2006 Dodge Avenger Concept, which the United States, unfortunately, will never see.

2009 Dodge Viper

If you’re looking for a luxury sports car for around 100 grand, the 2009 Dodge Viper is definitely worth a look. Originally made in 1992 to be a sports convertible, the designers finally added a hardtop roof to this model four years later. Now, the 2009 Viper brings you a sexy combination of power, handling, and speed with an exterior body that’s sure to turn heads on the street.

The Viper saga began in 1992, when Dodge released a rare lineup of just 200 cars. Their newly-introduced model came equipped with a 8L 488 cu. in. V10! Now, if that couldn’t impress a luxury sports car buyer in 1992, then it’s unclear what else could. This two-door bullet had a manual 6-speed transmission, and could crank out 400 horse powers. In 1996, Dodge added more colors to its palette of choices, and it redesigned the Viper’s exhaust pipes to enclose them, rather than leaving them open as before. According to their engineers, this improved the Viper’s horse powers by 15, to 415hp. They also restyled the wheels, and made a removable hardtop an optional upgrade. A GTS coupe version was also introduced; it boasted a 450hp engine, and featured a set of crucial improvements, such as 17” wheels, an anti-theft system, safety-oriented redesigned seats, dual airbags, a better CD stereo, as well as power windows and adjustable pedals.

In 1997, Dodge continued to improve the Viper; particularly, the original Roadster featured all the nice upgrades that the GTS coupe had. They redesigned the exhaust system in 1998, making it lighter, and added metallic silver as a color option. By 1999, the Viper was upgraded to 18” wheels, a redesigned interior (including optional leather), and black color for the GTS. In 2001, ABS and two new colors were added. No other car can break from 60mph to 0mph in under 100 feet like the 2009 Dodge Viper.

The interior looks, feels, and smells luxurious; with leather seats and professional-grade equipment installed on the dash board, you really feel like you’re driving a sports car. Although the 560 pound-feet torque sounds impressive, it comes at a price; approximate city gas mileage is estimated at 13mpg, or 22mpg on highways. You’re looking at doing about 260 miles per gas tank, and the 2009 Dodge Viper takes 16 gallons to fill up. Other things to consider prior to buying this explosive rear-wheel drive vehicle are insurance prices, as well as cost of maintenance: because there’s only a limited amount of 2009 Dodge Vipers out there, the cost of parts will be through the roof for this american muscle car.

1969 Dodge Super Bee

The two-door coupe Super Bee was based on Dodge’s previous model, the convertible Dodge Coronet, and was in production for only two years. From 1968 until 1970, the Dodge Super Bee gained a reputation of the low-price American muscle car. At just over 3 grand, the Super Bee was one of the most affordable bangs for your buck that you could get at the time.

Stylish and fast, the 1969 Dodge Super Bee was a natural rival of the Plymouth Road Runner that was very successful. Because both Dodge and Plymouth are a sub-division of Chrysler, the two brands were competing for the title of Chrysler Performance Division. The Dodge "Scat Pack" Bee design was implemented, creating a new image for Dodge muscle cars. Based off of the 1968 Coronet, the 1968 Dodge Super Bee was first shown at the Detroit Auto Show that same year.

The Dodge Super Bee was a very well-designed, fancy vehicle with stylish bee-styled stripes, a chrome grille, and a larger wheelbase than the Coronet that it was based off of. The interior had a number of impressive features, like a sophisticated gauge, along with a speedometer dash cluster that only added on to the price of the vehicle; this wasn’t a big hike at first, but eventually negatively affected its sales over years. A 4-gear manual transmission was an optional.

All three years, the Super Bee featured a 383-cu-in. 6.3L big-block V8 engine, as well as a 426-cu-in. 7.0L Hemi V8. They were capable of producing 335 and 425 horse powers respectively. In 1970 – the Dodge Super Bee’s last year in production – a monster 390 horse power 440-cu-in. 7.2L big-block V8 was available. After 1971, the Super Bee blended with the Charger, with a smaller big-block engine. From then on, it wasn’t on the production line for 36 years until it was re-introduced in the market as the 2007 Dodge Charger SRT-8. Although Dodge is considered to be an American brand, this particular muscle car is actually built in Canada. But don’t feel unpatriotic buying it; after all, it does belong to Chrysler.
